Dr Stanley Onye is the Director/Professor at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC. He currently directs the Science & Engineering Center at the University and is a Professor of Political Science & Public Administration. He specializes in Presidential Politics, International Relations and Public Administration. As the Director, Dr Onye manages the NASA education programs for the Washington, DC Region. He is the Washington, DC Regional Coordinator of the National Future City Competition, NASA SEMAA educational programs, Robotics Program, as well as the Director of the NASA Education Resource Center and Aerospace Education Laboratory.
Prior to the current position, Dr. Onye was for several years the Academic Director/Professor of the Criminal Justice & Government Department of the University of Maryland University College. As the head of the department, Dr. Onye was in charge of recruiting and administering the various programs that were offered in the department. Served in various university-wide committees and represented the university at various national and state wide education-related committees and activities. Furthermore, he directed course development in criminal justice and government disciplines and was the first UMUC faculty Senate president.
Earlier, Dr Onye served in various capacities with DC Government. He worked as Grants Administrator in the Historic Preservation Grants Office, Accountant in DC Insurance Administration, Chairman/User Fee Officer in the Department of Finance & Revenue, and Policy Analyst in the Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs. Dr Onye is an adjunct professor at various area Universities and Community colleges where he teaches courses in political science, public administration, economics, international relations and management.
Dr Onye holds a masters degree in Public Administration from Howard University and a PhD. in Government and International Relations from University of Maryland College Park, as well as Certificate in Soviet Studies, Certificate in Outstanding NASA Education, Certificate in Afterschool Program Planning Management and Certificate in Online Teaching.
In addition to the current professional activities, Dr Onye devotes much of his time to social issues and community activities. He serves or had served on a wide variety of community boards and organizations such as; Prince George's County, Public Safety Transition Committee Chairman, Coordinator, Africans For Baker PG County Executive Campaign Committee, former chairman Nwannedinamba Association Inc, former chairman of Onyeaghalanwanneya Mbaise Association, Chairman of Onicha Amairi Development Union Inc., (501) C3 Organization.
Professionally, Dr Onye is a member of the following; American Political Science Association, American Society of Engineering Education, International society For industrial security, K-12 STEM Education Council, DC Council of Engineering & Architectural Societies, NASA Council of NASA SEMAA Educators and ENVISION Prince George's.
Dr Onye has over 30 years of professional experience, strong academic background, professional credentials and a consistent record of personal achievement in the planning, implementation and management of human services and education programs for higher education and special service organizations. He possesses excellent writing and oral presentations skills and excellent leadership and managerial qualities. Has extensive international and cross-cultural experiences and good understanding of cultural diversity based on experience, research and studies in international relations and administration. Dr Onye has the strength to act and vision to lead with a powerful optimistic faith in the future.
